Resume Gap (July 2023 – April 2024)
July to November
After being Laid off by Microsoft in July 2023, myself and my partner took a 4 month trip to travel the world!
We kicked off our epic adventure in the Eternal City, Rome, before jetting off to the dazzling Dubai. From there, we hopped on a plane to the vibrant Singapore. Once in the Lion City, we traded our passports for train and bus tickets and embarked on a whirlwind tour of Southeast Asia. We explored the bustling streets of Singapore, the lush rainforests of Malaysia, the ancient temples of Thailand, and the bustling cities of Vietnam. After soaking up all the sights and sounds, we returned to Singapore for our final hurrah before flying home.
Fresh from the vibrant chaos of Singapore, we traded palm trees for maple leaves in early September. Starting in Toronto, we embarked on a road trip across Canada’s Eastern provinces. Our adventure was packed with stunning landscapes, bustling cities, and charming towns. We even made a detour to the Big Apple, spending a week soaking up the energy of New York City.
December to April
December marked the beginning of my job-hunting journey. While I was busy honing new skills and having a blast, I also dove into the world of game development. I started creating PC and mobile games in C# using Unity, and although they weren’t masterpieces, they were a fun learning experience (See Portfolio).
With an eye on TPM roles, I dedicated time to studying for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) exam, though I never took the plunge. To gain a deeper understanding of entrepreneurship, I experimented with three small businesses on Shopify. While the taxman took a significant chunk of my earnings, it was a valuable lesson. I recently closed down these ventures, but the knowledge I gained was priceless.
